I know I've been a bad blogger and neglecting this but school sucks as a bio major and I've been spending too much of my time in bars. Here are just a few pictures with some of my friends :

Catching Up pt 1
So midterms were awful. Anyone care to remind me why I became a biology major? Seriously. I have a death wish. So now I'm just gonna post pictures that I've taken over the past couple of weeks.
Things I bought:
F21
Etsy: whichgoose(hair comb,) binarysoul(key chain,) and sojourncuriosities (pendant)
To Our New President
Dear Barack,
Please don't fuck up.
Love, Ariel
P.S. No, seriously.
I'm sure other people echo my sentiments.

Quirks
1. Link back to the person who tagged you
2. Mention the rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking to them
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged bloggers blogs letting them know they've been tagged.
I was tagged by the lovely etoile88 and chubbs to tell you about my unspectacular quirks.
1 I plan on getting a full back piece sometime this summer.
2 I'm a complete nerd. My life goal is to cure AIDS, I read way too many comics and I play video games.
3 Fall is the best time to meet me. I tend to spend my nights out penning novels, drinking coffee and being receptive to new people. I see beauty everywhere and am liable to dance all the way home.
4 I don't feel complete without a book or a pen near me, however I can survive on podcasts (VariantFrequencies and Pseudopod are my favorites)
5 When I'm having a bad day, I get a cup of chocolate ice cream and watch horror movies. (I love John Carpenter's "Vampires," "Gingersnaps" and "Joshua")
6 I watch people's mouths when they're speaking. I find that the lips are more honest than the eyes.
I tag Richel, Catherine and Lauren, Elisa, Teri, Starr

Does anyone know where I can find boots like this in the US? It can be in stores or online. I just am really into boots with the studs in them, preferrably ankle boots.More outfit posts soon (my last exam is tomorrow, yay!) and thanks for you help!

Black
F21 cardi
FreePeople dress
UO jeans
Converse shoes
thrifted belt
You know, I have yet to figure out how to take pictures so that people can see all the details. You can’t really see how thin the dress was underneath or the rippling action of the cardigan. It was all pretty sweet. It might have to do with the lighting? The bottom picture shows details better though.

School/Work
UO shirt
thrifted black skirt
Gap jean skirt
FP slip
Wet Seal earrings
So I decided this time to include details of the things I wear. I really like to pay attention to texture and I know a lot of times it doesn't come off in pictures. Plus, I have really awesome earrings that no one gets to see in the pictures. Hopefully in the future I can do a detail and an earring capture in one picture.
These pictures were taken by a friend of mine who dropped by to visit between his classes. At first he didn't want to take them because he says he's awful at pictures but I told him my new (!) camera's awesomeness is more potent than his pictorial disability. I think he did alright.
Anyway, these pictures are a prime example of how I take school wear into work wear. I just switch out whatever is not black or white for something that is.

Burn After Reading
Top from Nordstrom
Skirt from Dadeland mall in Miami 5 years ago
Sorry for the goofy pictures. The man kept making me laugh and I was in a good mood after seeing Burn After Reading. That movie was so funny and so random and at the end you're left with a pleasant sense of, "what the fuck?"
The day was also good because after work, while waiting for the man to show up I went over to Madewell to do a little shopping and an ex-Lushie friend was there. Well, she manages the store so of course she'd be there. But I digress. I went to try on a pair of sexy cordoroy skinnies (they looked soo good on me, if only they came in an electric blue too!) and before I knew it she, and all the other sales associates put clothes in my room for me to try on. It was almost like I had a stylist and by the end I felt like a little doll. I have to go back to buy the black cord skinnies, dark denim skinnies and two dresses.
It was a good day.

Petticoat Redux
UO top
Converse sneakers
In The Starlight petticoat
Free People sweater
I'm sure you all remember the petticoat experiment the first time and how I wasn't exactly sure how I felt about it. I played around with it yesterday, just wanted to make it really simple and I like how it turned out. I wore it to work and then out to Waffle House with a friend. Let me tell you, there are few things better than breakfast foods in the middle of the night.
On the hair thing: yep decided to let my hair grow out long and curly. I don't plan on doing the afro at all. I mean, my mother rocked it but it's not for me so much. Thank you guys for all your support about it. I know it may not seem like a big deal to you guys but it really is becauase black hair is so political and the way you wear it means so much to how people view you as a person. Personally, I just want to be able to grow my hair down my back and I can't do that while I'm damaging it. Have you guys ever gone to BiracialHair.org? Teri is my hair idol.
I hope y'all have a nice night!

Late Night Post
top is h&M
skinnies are UO
shoes are converse
Atlanta's weather is really annoying me. In the mornings it's always really cool, so much so that I have to add a sweater and a scarf on the walk to school but by the time I get out of class (2pm at the latest) it's hot as hell and the skinnies that were weather appropriate aren't any more. I also keep buying sweaters and knits and stuff like that and I want to wear them so bad but I can't. (sighs) When's summer over? I'm sick of it.
This is actually a work outfit. My school outfits are genereally more colorful. I was wearing blue jeans to class earlier today and a bright yellow sweater. I think I'm trying to counteract all the black I have to wear at work and to deal with work stresses. You know work is stressful when a customer threatens you based on the color of your skin.
Anyway, I think I'm gonna grow my hair out natural. Just let it grow long and curly and spirally and free. I think. Maybe.

Untitled?
thrifted necklace and belt
Wet Seal tank
BdG skinnies
converses
Sometimes I feel so ungirly that I have to pull out tanks, jeans and sneakers. Those are also the days I happen to exude sexuality. Go figure.
I love my hair. It's so wild and crazy when it wants to be but with the right care it can be calm and docile too. It's kind of like a pet lion. Anyway, I pulled the top part of my hair back so that it was calmer, sort of a half-up half-down look.
I'm planning on hennaing my hair tomorrow with the Caca Rouge from Lush. I think it'll make my hair look richer. Also, my hair is getting longer. I'm about an inch from my October goal (armpit length)! Squeee!

Pumpkin Dress
thrifted necklace
F21 Cardigan
Free People dress
Today the pictures weren't as bomb diggity as they usually are because D was very sleepy and didn't want to go to work. It was very cute. (If you want more of the dress click here.)
I was actually pretty lucky in finding this necklace. I happened to be out and decided to drop by a shop and I saw it. I was so excited cause stuff like this never happens to me. It's always someone else who gets the great find. And it cost 12 bucks. I was soo pleased. I'm sure you can imagine.
Also, the cardigan is pretty hot too. I love the way it's so drapey and soft and warm. It's perfect for on the train to work and in class. Oh! And I can't wait till it gets cold so I can turn it into a super awesome drapey scarf. I got a sorta long vest like this too from F21. I think I'll wear it on Friday with a lame skirt. The skirt may be kinda short for work though. Hmm. I don't know. I'll just have to see.
Last but not least, I have been taking outfit pictures, I've just been so busy trying to snatch some sleep to post them. I promise I will post them soon and will not cheat by splitting them up (although it is tempting.)
I hope all is well with you guys!
Adios!

After Work
I know it looks like I'm the living dead but in such low light I have to stay increeeeedibly still for the picture to take.
James Reese shirt (I think)
BDG skinnies
Converse
random suspenders
assorted jewelry
You know, I always seem to know exactly what to say until I actually pull up the screen to do the post. Silly, huh? Anyway, I wore this to school and work today. I got a couple of compliments on it, which is interesting cause it's like every time I have an outfit I don't particularly like other people do. Most notable was the compliment I got from one of the guys who works in the mall. We're roughly the same age and I've had to turn him down a few times. He said the outfit was "real cute, spunky." It almost makes me want to never wear anything like this again. What is it with men? The more you turn them down the more they want you. And it's like the more you explain that your boyfriend can do everything they can but 1000x better (which he can and more) the more they try. I just don't get it.
That's one of the reasons why I can't wait for winter to come. I'll be all babushka-ed up, so swathed in scarves and layers that all people will be able to see is my little nose and kohl-lined eyes.
The good part about working at Lush though, is when you leave, you smell like flowers and baby powder with a hint of something more mysterious like sandalwood and musk.

Waking Up
FP Dress
UO skinnies
So now everyone knows how I sleep. I have a tendency to lay in really odd positions or super curled up and it takes me foreeeever to actually get up. Usually awakeness is best negotiated by a series of sitting positions. Up on my arms, then on my heels, then finally on my butt. Also, somehow my black clothing is no longer black. I think it's from working at Lush. Everything is a permanent shade of dark grey. This is not going to work. I might have to wear all white to work now.
(Quick note: the doll that I'm holding I've had since I was 4, that was 16 years ago! And she's still as sweet and precious to me as when I first got her.)

The petticoat
UO t-shirt
In the Starlight petticoat
Sock Dreams socks
Justin Roper boots
So I my petticoat finally arrived in the mail with was exciting but I didn't know how I wanted to wear it. The outfit above is my first try at unLolita-fying it, which is why I wore the boots. Unbeknownst to me, the boots just intensified the look. So I'm not exactly sure what to do to make it less obviously petticoat and more poofy skirt. Maybe it needs to be shorter. It kinda reminds me of a long version of the Miu Miu shirt thingies. It also reminds me of Death of the Endless from the Sandman comics. I don't know. I'm a nerd.

Parisian Party
Free People shirt
UO skinnies
Steve Madden flats
At Lush we regularly have parties where if you spend the right amount of money there are awesome goodie bags. And there's music and food and good conversation. On Saturday we had our Parisian themed party, so I wore all black with flats and a jaunty scarf (that I'm not wearing in the picture.) These pictures were taken in the same place as these so I'm thinking the camera needs to get better or there needs to be more lighting.
